At Nebula Illustrations this is one of our favorite art prints, we have a love for butterflies and all living things and so ensured when creating our art prints that we did lots of research. We wanted to ensure that the paper we use came from a sustainable source and that our packaging was plastic-free and compostable.

Monarch Butterflies have two sets of vibrant orange wings with a distinctive pattern. The wings are actually created from tiny overlapping scales made of Chitin, which is an abundant substance similar to glucose.

We wanted to include the scientific name of the Monarch Butterfly on this art print for two reasons, firstly it adds an educational touch to the art print and secondly, the meaning behind the scientific name in Greek literature translates to sleepy transformation.
We also wanted to include the wing span of the butterfly so that you can get an idea of how big these butterflies are. Although the image is not true to size, it does show the beautiful detail of the wings.
A Work of Art: The Monarch Butterfly Art Print
For the Monarch Butterfly art print, we wanted to use a light beige background to ensure that the orange in the butterflies wings was the main focal point. We chose a formal font to ensure that the elegance and simplicity of the text were maintained to ensure the butterfly remained the focal point.
Our paper as mentioned previously comes from sustainable forests, we use vegetable-based inks which are alcohol-free and vegan so if you are looking for an art print that suits those values you don’t have to feel guilty about buying and decorating your home with beautiful prints.
Unlike other prints which come in a plastic sleeve, that goes into the normal bin and then off to landfill. We use potato starch protective sleeves and so can be thrown in the compost bin once you open up your print.
We understand that it can be difficult to find good products that don’t cause harm so that is why we have done plenty of research to ensure that our art prints are as eco-friendly as possible.
